When is the Last Time You Rejoiced?

When is the last time you rejoiced?

That you stopped everything you were doing because the Word of God spoke to you so clearly, so immeasurably, that you wanted nothing to disturb the presence and peace of the moment?

That despite your trials and tests, you received a love so intense you cannot fully comprehend it, but even so, you bask in the glory of the Father, returning it back to Him, because no, it is not about you, but HIM?

1 Peter 1:6-9 says, In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, whom having not seen you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, receiving the end of your faith—the salvation of your souls.

Rejoice with joy - The FEELING of joy is EXPRESSED through rejoicing. Joy is a feeling we can trust through our praise, honor and glory to God.

And it's a feeling so strong that it is inexpressible.

I want to posit something now: a connection I've made in my studies in the last two weeks. Maybe you have known this all along, but this was placed on my heart and I want to know what you think.

When we powerfully and richly rejoice - when we set aside all distractions and we fully experience praise in its purest form - we are praising not only with our hearts, but with our spirits as well.

Read these two verses:

Romans 8:26 Likewise, the spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we aught, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

1 Corinthians 14:13-14 Therefore, let him who speaks in tongues pray that he may interpret. For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful.

So, here's the connection of the three verses: The joy I feel is inexpressible, yet I express it through rejoicing. Joy is born in the heart and I lift my voice in praise in a language I understand, but my spirit lifts praise in a tongue which requires interpretation, so the HOLY SPIRIT intercedes with groanings that cannot be uttered.

What do you think? Am I taking too many verses out of context? Do you see the connections? Have you thought about the different ways you connect to the Father, in the Holy Spirit through the blessing of Jesus? What does rejoicing mean to you? I'd love to hear what you think. DISCLAIMER - PLEASE do not misunderstand me. I am not proclaiming my connection as biblical truths that we all must adopt. I am not adding to the scriptures. I am not teaching. But these are the connections or the last week or two as God has directed my reading of the Bible.
