What's Your Secret?

We all have a secret. Large or small, telling or insignificant, we all have that thing that’s hidden deeply, covered in a drugged cloud or a plastic smile. Pacing back and forth in its cell, biding its time until it can emerge to do some real damage.

Or maybe it has just been there for so long that it’s part of you. You forgot it was really even there. Until now. Sorry about that.

But the Word of God is living. See Hebrews 4:12 (NKJV)

For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Each time we cozy up to our bible, the spirit of God is moving within that secret place. And he sees past any defenses we erect.

He sees into our thoughts and the intentions of our heart. He knows the place where our deepest hurts and joyous joys reside. He knows our most secret desires and the place where desperation takes root.

He sees the hurt, confusion, pain, guilt, fear, anger, lust, envy and any other toxic waste Satan can throw our way.

So why put up worldly shields around what God could penetrate with a single breath? There are no earthly defenses that surround our spirit that God’s Word cannot penetrate like a two-edged sword.

There is no wound too deep, or scar too covered in leather, no stone too hard, no heart of ice too cold.

So take that last little piece and offer it to him. Speak it out loud and then get your bible and ask God to show you his peace, his resolution, his Grace. You may think your secret is just fine where it is, hiding in dark recesses not hurting a soul, but the disobedience of it, no matter how tiny, clouds the spirit.

Romans says:

“For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38-39)

And if these cannot separate us from Him, why do I think my silly little defenses will do so? I only mortify my own soul by stubbornly defending myself against fears and woes that only He can fix. Today, I will concede and not make a joke of his saving grace by throwing up defenses he could penetrate with a feather.

I concede and take rest in Him as I open my bible and let His sword pierce through my defenses.

What is the tiny piece that you hold back? What is it you conceal that He already knows? Will you let him speak to every corner of your heart as you allow the living Word into your soul?

Join me in this short prayer:

Lord, I have a secret. A secret you already know. But it commands me and today, I turn it over to you. Allow the Holy Spirit to open my eyes as I study the bible as your Living Word within me. And let it renew and refresh me and bring you glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
