Introducing Peggy Blann Phifer!

I am so very pleased to introduce you to Peggy Blann Phifer, author of brand new historical romantic suspense, Whispering Hope, released May 2018 by Forget Me Not Romance, a division of Winged Publications. I was honored to guest blog on her site Whispers in Purple. You can find Whispering Hope by clicking on that title.

Peggy writes about an eccentric time in our country. Full of gangsters, shootings, a handsome agent, a lovely redhead and a beautiful resort in God’s Country, you have all the makings for an exciting and satisfying read. Take a look:

1930 Chicago is no place for a Wisconsin country girl. Virginia Hopewell visits her cousin in Chicago and gets caught up in a deadly gangster shooting at a speakeasy, barely escaping with her life. After learning of the tragic death of her father, brother, and sister-in-law, Ginny returns to Wisconsin and convinces her mother to reopen the resort her father had closed after losing everything in the stock market crash in 1929.

Ransom Blake, an agent with the Chicago Bureau of Prohibition, had been at the same speakeasy acting on a tip about the shooting. Rance is charged with finding the gangster responsible. He and his team are sent to Wisconsin where the man was reported being seen, and to investigate how illegal liquor from Canada is making its way to Chicago.

With the opening of Whispering Hope Resort, Rance registers as a guest and comes face to face with the lovely redhead he’d briefly encountered at the speakeasy during the shooting.

Doesn't that sound like a great read? You can find all the links to purchase the book at the end of this author interview. Please consider purchasing a copy of Whispering Hope and lose yourself in a different era. Never tried Romantic or Historical Suspense before? Surprise yourself at how much you love a good ending. And don’t forget to leave a review! One of the most supportive ways you can love on your favorite authors is to leave a genuine review.

Here’s what else Peggy had to say in this Author Interview:

What surprised you when writing this book? The amount of research it took. The era it is set in is before my time, so I had to dig deep for the information I needed to make it as authentic as possible. Hopefully I’ve done that. On the plus side, I love history, and love research, so it wasn’t exactly torture. :::grin:::

Do you have any interesting writing quirks or habits while you write? I am an inveterate snacker. Chips, nuts, crackers, and always coffee. I need to be careful my crumbs don’t drop onto the keyboard and clog it up. I have yet to spill coffee on it, though.

Tell us something interesting about yourself unrelated to writing. Well, I’m an avid reader, but my eyes have gotten so bad I can only read digital books. And that makes me sad, because I love the feel of a real book in my hands. I also love handcrafts such as crochet, needle-point, and I dabbled in ceramics years ago. Loved doing that.

Do you have a word count goal each day or do you write for hours when you feel inspired? A combination of both. As a member of ACFW, I’ve taken part in the Novel Track Writing loop for some time. This requires setting a monthly word count goal, so that keeps me accountable. I’ve learned that waiting to be ‘inspired’ doesn’t work. Even if I don’t feel like writing, Because of the NTW monthly goal, I sometimes have to force myself to write anyway. Every little word counts.

Do you have an “author verse” – a truth that you cling to while writing? It’s not exactly a ‘verse’ but a quote I found years ago from Beverly Sills, Metropolitan Opera star whom I adored, that inspired me ... “You may be disappointed if you fail, but you are doomed if you don’t try.” Isn’t that great? So, I make sure to ‘try’ no matter what rejections or disappointments I face.

Can you share with readers how they can help you as an author? My book needs reviews! I would be ever so grateful for that. The book’s link is: - thank you in advance for helping me out.

Have you thought about writing in a different genre? Which one? I have, and I do. I’m published in romantic suspense and women’s fiction, as well as historical romantic suspense as with Whispering Hope. I am currently working under contract for a novella series, which is also women’s fiction dealing with foster care and adoption. Having a fun time with that.

Who is your favorite character and why? That’s a 50/50 split. I love both of my main characters. Ginny, because in some ways she’s a lot like me, and Rance because he’s the strong ‘knight in shining armor’ – and handsome, of course. Both were a joy to write.
