IBCON2020

May 2, 2019

Stories have a beginning and one of mine started at the Blue Ridge Mountains Christian Writer's Conference in 2017.

I was brand new to writing but was there to pitch Ruth's Garden, then eleven chapters. My friends and family thought I had a winner, so by golly, I was coming home with awards, an agent and a publishing contract.

Eye roll.

While I had promising conversations, I'm pretty sure one of them whispered to the agent beside them, "Bless her heart," as I explained I only had twenty four Twitter followers.

Though I fashioned myself a story-teller, "Introvert's Guide" chanted through my thoughts in each workshop and general session, so much so, that I began writing IG in the corner of each page I thought might relate to some introvert thing.

I argued with myself and God. "I'm a fiction writer," But the chanting persisted.

Now, two years later, I love blogging at The Introverted Believer and I'm planning a conference for Introverts.

What? Don't introverts like to be quiet and alone? Why don't they shut up already?

Yes, it's true, introverts do have preferences toward solitude, but they also have a preference toward solidarity when it is authentic and genuine. And that's how I came up with this year's theme for IBCON2020:

SOLID, Finding solidarity in our solitude.

You see, I believe introverts have a bold sense of situations but might lack the social skills to be recognized and heard. We don't spend the required amount of time building relationships only to get fifteen minutes of floor time on a project, or in a small group at church, or even online.

While others may see us as shy, unparticipative, or disengaged until we go on the attack, we see ourselves and observant and discerning until we find the most effective time to insert our perspective.

I am building a conference where other introverts can learn about what makes them tick and how they can contribute and engage meaningfully at church, at work, in their marriage and in their friendships while still being true to who they are at the core: an introvert.

Coming April 2020 in Effingham, Illinois (only a 4-6 hour drive from MANY major cities across the Midwest) is The Introverted Believer Conference.

Right now, I am looking for members of my Leadership Team and for members of the Planning Team. If you would be interested in learning more and reading a job description, email me.

In the near future, I will publish a website and a Call for Speakers. My goal is to get registration going in July.

I would LOVE your feedback on making this conference awesome. Complete this survey to help me plan.

Pray for me, will you? I want very much to stay true to what God intended with this conference.
