What is the name of your book? What is it about?
Beautiful Warrior: Finding Victory over the Lies Formed Against You helps women identify and fulfill their potential. Readers discover secret barriers which derail living with joy and purpose. In addition to clinically proven action steps and Biblical encouragement, I share insights from my personal journey of overcoming low self-esteem.
What surprised you when writing this book?
Though I’ve written various genres during the course of my career, this personal and emotionally transparent manuscript challenged me more than any other work. Writing from the inkwell of your heart is painful and difficult. The hope of sharing freedom with other captives inspired me to press through the struggle.
How will introverted readers relate to your book?
The concept of suffering in secret will resonate with all personality types, but particularly with introverts.
Do you have any interesting writing quirks or habits while you write?
In contrast to my tidy habits regarding the rest of my home, irregular paper stacks quilt the surface of my desk. Piles nestle along the corners and at my feet.
Tell us something interesting about yourself unrelated to writing.
I’m a latte junkie and enjoy dabbling in crafts if I get time between projects.
Do you have a word count goal each day or do you write for hours when you feel inspired?
I am an organic writer, so I don’t work toward a daily word count. My schedule shifts according to the projects at hand.
Do you have an “author verse” – a truth that you cling to while writing?
I have several favorite Psalms. Psalm 99:6 comforts me, because it reveals how the effectiveness of those called as the Lord’s messengers depends on God’s faithfulness, not upon ours. We simply need to call upon the Lord, and he will answer us. I also love Psalm 102:18, since I might not see the impact of my writing in the near future and must remember why and for whose purposes I work.
Can you share with readers how they can help you as an author?
Reviews and recommendations offer critical support to authors and allow us to survive.
Have you thought about writing in a different genre? Which one?
I enjoy trying new genres. I have supernatural, horror, and contemporary fantasy manuscripts which are currently under review with publishers. I also won awards for middle grade and young adult novels, as well as devotionals.
Who is your favorite character and why?
Choosing a favorite character is exceptionally difficult for a writer! I’ve always loved Galadriel from Lord of the Rings, since I aspire to lead with wisdom and power while resisting pride and battling darkness. I also love Alara from Kristen Stieffel’s novels. Without suggesting we become masculine, Alara demonstrates the strength and spiritual leadership potential of women.
